The City of Athens welcomes your input! As part of the Fiscal Year 2016 budget development process, City staff is gathering community suggestions about the annual budget.

The Budget Input Box will be available through July 16, 2015. Paper copies of this form are available at City Hall, Central Fire Station, City Hall Annex and the Athens Partnership Center.

Welcome to the City of Athens
The City of Athens (incorporated in 1902) has been a Council/Manager form of Municipal Government since its adoption by Home Rule Charter in 1966. The Mayor and four Council Members are elected at large by the citizens of Athens. The City Council selects the City Administrator, who is accountable for the overall operation and management of the City.
The City of Athens is the county seat of Henderson County and is located approximately 75 miles Southeast of Dallas, 36 miles West of Tyler and 189 miles North of Houston.
Athens is the "Home of the Hamburger" and the "Black-Eyed Pea Capitol of the World".
Athens has received designation as a "Certified Retirement Community" by the Texas Department of Agriculture (www.athenstxretirement.com).
Athens has a small town atmosphere, yet it is close enough to enjoy the benefits of larger cities, with Tyler being 35 miles to the East and Dallas being 75 miles to the Northwest. Athens is surrounded by a number of quality lakes, including Lake Athens and Cedar Creek Lake, making it a boater's and fisherman's paradise. The East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society will delight the nature lover in everyone. Athens is also home to The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, a fish hatchery, museum and education center that boasts 300,000 gallons of acquaria along with other exihibits.
Directions: From Dallas, take Highway 175 Southeast into downtown Athens or take Interstate 20 East toward Canton, in Canton take Highway 19 South into downtown Athens.
