ELECTION INFORMATION
ORDER CANCELING MAY 12, 2012 CITY OF ATHENS GENERAL ELECTION
The City Secretary is the Chief Election Officer for the City of Athens and oversees the administration of City elections to ensure compliance with all City, State and Federal election laws and policies and to ensure that City elections are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
Athens City Council elections are held on the second Saturday in May of each year. The election for Mayor and City Council Member, Place 1 is held on odd numbered years and the election for City Council Member, Place 2, Place 3 and Place 4 is held on even numbered years. All candidates for Athens City Council must meet the following requirements, as set forth in the Texas Election Code and City of Athens Charter:
