MISSION STATEMENT:

The City of Athens encourages community involvement and is committed to providing efficient and effective government which is open and responsive to the needs of the community and works for the benefit of all.


ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS:

City Council - To provide leadership, to set policy and make decisions based upon facts and what is in the best interest of the entire City.

City Employees - To serve the public in an atmosphere of courtesy, friendliness and respect.  To provide the highest quality municipal services in an effective and fiscally responsible manner.

The City of Athens Charter provides for a Council-Manager form of local government. The Mayor and City Council Members are elected from the City at large for terms of two (2) years.

The Athens City Council meets in Regular Session on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Derek D. Daniels Conference Room of the Athens Partnership Center, 201 W. Corsicana St., Athens, Texas.

 


The Rules of Procedure shall be followed when requesting to appear before the City Council.
